Elevating An Underrated Feature
We might be biased, but one of the best aspects of BlockTanks is the social component it brings to the web game scene! In other words, we think the ability to create a custom BlockTanks game for you and your friends is pretty neat. In custom games, you can change nearly any aspect of BlockTanks, from the way weapons work to the speed of the tanks.
A Player-Driven Community
One of our top priorities in BlockTanks is allowing players to create content for the game itself. For example, anyone can create their own maps and clans, and many of our skins are made by community members too. Today, we add a new type of content to the list: scheduled events on our community calendar!
How It Works
Previously, only VIP members could publish events to the community calendar. However, as of today, any player above level 20 with a verified email address can create community calendar events! We made this change to encourage more events and player-driven content. We worked hard to make the community calendar and would love to see it used more!
To publish an event to the community calendar, just create a custom match as usual, but instead of playing the match, just fill out the information underneath the new Community Events menu:

The event will be submitted for approval, and will then be displayed publicly once it’s approved!

For more information, check out our YouTube video describing the process.
Ideas for Community Events:
- Disable all but one weapon: for example, a sniper-only event.
- Modify a weapon with crazy settings: anyone ready for multi-bounce miniguns?
- Clan wars: use the Team Filters menu to restrict a match so that only certain clans can join each team.
- Battle royale: try out our (currently) non-public game mode with a bunch of players!
- Competitive matches: use the Team Filters menu to only allow players above a certain level to join. Don’t worry, lower level players can still spectate!
And That’s It!
It’s a small change, but we think that opening up the community calendar will help achieve our vision of a player-centered community in BlockTanks. We hope you enjoy, and let us know your thoughts and questions!
Sincerely,
Kevin Champagne
