As promised, team balancing is finally here on BlockTanks! If you have ever experienced the headache of a 15v3 deathmatch, this update is for you! 🙂
How it Works
Whenever a user joins a match, the game will check the “skill rating” of each team. The skill rating is calculated using the following rules:
- For guests and players under level 25, add 25 points to the skill rating.
- For players above level 25, add their level to the skill rating.
- Completely ignore bots in this process.
So, a team with a level 47 player, a level 15 player, two guests, and one bot would have a skill rating of 47 + 25 + 25 + 25 = 122 points
If the skill rating of one team is 50 points or above the other team, the game will force the player to join the less skilled team.
These rules will result in teams that have similar numbers of players while also factoring the experience of each individual player. Note that the 25 point baseline and 50 point threshold are both able to change according to what the community thinks is best!
What’s Next?
Here are a couple of future updates we are really excited about:
- December 18th: The community calendar will change a little bit. Instead of “signing up” for an event, you will “receive reminders” for an event. This will allow people to join events even if they aren’t signed up, which will boost turnout for your events.
- January 1st, 2024: We will begin cycling through game modes, keeping FFA and 16v16 every day, and having an additional daily special mode. This will help consolidate players into fewer matches, making matches feel more full. It will also allow us to test and add more game modes publicly.
That’s it for this newsletter, and please comment or reach out if you have questions/thoughts!
Sincerely,
Kevin Champagne
